My 34 year old UPS was up for new batteries again-(18x12v 9Ah SLA`s at a cost of $534.42, double what it was 5yrs ago). While pondering over the cost, i saw this VoltX UPS with 1280W output and a built in LiPo battery Very close to its rating for Less than $100 extra at BigW. The advantages over the Ole Faithful are the battery"should have a longer life span", Is faster to charge, has 3 methods of charging"mains, followed by 12v then Solar-IF you want to skip straight from mains to Solar, just leave the 12v unplugged or to just use Solar during the day, leave the Mains and 12v unplugged. Mine runs all day and most of the night at around 450~550W with my pc, tv, alarm clock, phone chargers, NBN modem and routers, CCTV system and 7 channel Amp, "IF" i have a power outage "scheduled or not" it gives me a good 2.5hrs runtime, is i shut down the amp and pc, my tv and the rest will run for about 5hrs. Comes in handy with power outages on the pc- "nothing worse than Windows BSOD and Not wanting to start after an in-proper shutdown. I haven`t taken it out as a Portable supply "YET", but it is a lot lighter at 16.5Kg vs Ole Faithful at 70.9Kg. I will be adding Solar to it in the next couple of months. I am impressed and Very Pleased. And Yes, that is Cat Hair on it in the pics.. ;)
